It's rare to find an industry which is not in some way affected by the Internet. Whether it's news, commerce or government, the Internet is leaving it's mark. For plenty of market leaders the Internet has been a mixed blessing. Naturally everyone profits from new opportunities, but the Internet also allows new players to emerge. Himalayan Websites is a typical case. A few years ago it would have been very hard to imagine an IT company from Himachal Pradesh to manage servers remotely in data centres abroad. Everyone would have asked why we're not (at least) in Bangalore. But being in a mountain region has its definite advantages, from clean air to substantially lower costs of living compared to big cities.

Of course building up an IT company in the Himalayas is not without it’s challenges. The Web is a new medium here with a set of success criteria of it’s own, some of which are quite different from the well known brick-and-mortar world. On the other hand good business practices like delegation of responsibility, enforcement of personal accountability and process control are very much the same all over the globe.

Web Services are breaking down traditional borders inside companies and often succeed because of the decentralised nature of the project. As the Web is a very fluid environment we rely on our partners and they on us. Managing Web Services on an International scale is our business but without the close co-operation of data centres, satellite connection providers and many others we could not succeed.

But most heavily we rely on customers. It is because of them that intangible assets like human creativity and improvisation talent come to light and mark the success of our company.
